Press Release - June 2008
AFTAID's
£230 grant gives arthritis London, June 2008 - Osteoarthritis sufferer Janet Waldron, 70, has benefited thanks to a grant from AFTAID - Aid for the Aged in Distress - the charity that provides the elderly with vital financial support. Crippling arthritis made her fearful of falling over and getting in or out of the bath was a particular problem. Her children helped as much as they could from their homes in other parts of the country. Janet's unavoidable and largely untreatable illness caused her to become highly concerned of being forced to move to a smaller, more convenient house/flat and losing her long time friends from the local Friendship Clubs, where she occasionally enjoys a meal, a game of bingo and outings. Although loathe to ask for help, when Janet realised something had to be done she did approach her local Social Services who suggested the shower. But there were no local grants available to help. Within days of Janet being put in contact with AFTAID via Age Concern, a grant was made available and the shower was installed. Thrilled Janet says: "It's
absolutely marvellous. It has enabled me to continue living independently
in my home of many years. I now no longer have the same fear of falling
nor do I worry about having to move to a new locality where I won't know
anyone." For further details or to speak to a Trustee, email your request and contact details to info@aftaid.org.uk Download pdf - Download text file - Back to full list of releases
